When a sheepish-looking client handed her a La Perla box containing a Christmas present for, ahem, “a friend,” professional giftwrapper Abigail Neave didn’t raise an eyebrow.
“This one must be kept separately from the other items,” muttered the jittery Wall Streeter, pointing toward the less-risqué offerings he’d purchased for his wife and family.
Neave’s solution? Contrasting paper and a discreet sticker.
“He didn’t mess up — at least on that particular occasion,” laughs Neave.
Jill Glist, president of the Manhattan-based concierge firm Lambent Services, which employs Neave, reports a 40 percent rise in demand for giftwrapping services over the past five years, while the odd-jobs Web site TaskRabbit records a 25 percent increase in the number of appeals for gift-wrappers in 2014 compared with the same period in 2013.
“There’s no denying that giftwrapping is a pain and people are just too busy to do it themselves,” explains Jamie Viggiano, TaskRabbit’s VP of marketing.
